1955-1975 Citroën ID/DS, modelontwikkeling
De Citroën DS wordt in 1955 op de Salon de l’Automobile in Parijs aan de pers en het publiek voorgesteld. In modeljaar 1957 volgt de eenvoudigere ID, zonder hydraulische rem- en stuurbekrachtiging, en zonder halfautomaat. Modeljaar 1960 brengt de break/stationwagon (alleen ID) en modeljaar 1961 de décapotable/cabriolet (DS en ID). De verschillen tussen DS en ID vervagen later. Vanaf januari 1963 kan ook de DS met handbak verkregen worden en in februari 1968 verschijnen de eerste ID breaks met halfautomaat.
De belangrijkste uiterlijke wijzigingen betreffen het front. Dit wordt twee keer veranderd, zodat sprake is van een eerste, tweede en derde neus. De eerste neus wordt gekenmerkt door een voorbumper zonder stootblokken en door een lunchtinlaat over de gehele breedte daar direct onder. De tweede neus van modeljaar 1963 is voorzien van twee stootblokken en heeft luchtinlaten onder de koplampen. De derde neus van modeljaar 1968 heeft dubbele koplampen achter glas. Het nummerbord is niet langer boven, maar onder de voorbumper geplaatst.

1955-1975 Citroën ID/DS, evolutie dashboard
Bij de modelontwikkeling van Citroëns D-model mag het dashboard eigenlijk niet ontbreken. Net als de drie neuzen zijn er drie dashboards. De invoering daarvan liep niet synchroon, wat interessante combinaties oplevert, zoals die van de derde neus met het tweede dashboard.
