An electric pump that switches extra fuel in manually? That sounds like a recipe for bore wash to me.

What amount of air can these electric superchargers displace. All the ones I have seen aren’t really up to the job. There’s a video somewhere of someone attaching a leaf blower to their engine and it having only very little effect.

A 2.0l engine at 5000rpm needs ~10,000 liters of air per minute, depending on VE. If you want 1.14 bar boost means a top of 21400 liters of air per minute depending on VE at that rpm.

Also, decreasing compression will decrease your ‘basic’ engine power, thus meaning you will need even more boost to reach 170hp.

For the application you seem to be building, go out and get yourself a nice cheap nitrous kit. Best bang for buck as far as short term performance goes.

10,000 litres of air is 10 cubic metres. A cubic metre is 35.6 cubic feet. so around 356 cubic feet of air per minute.

Het lost wel eindelijk het CX/CD probleem op. Deze heeft gewoon geen CD, alleen SD kaarten, en bluetooth audio streamen. Dan kan er ook niks misgaan met het CD loopwerk .

Didn’t know FBAT had belonged to Neil. The owner I spoke to is quite insane and was building a 600hp chevy blazer with one mechanically driven axle, one hydraulically driven axle and a electrically driven axle (he’d added a third axle to it).

As for the results on John’s modifications, I will testbench it when it’s done. Then we’ll know. I have faith in the results. And it’s not going to cost me 9k GBP. I’m getting rid of the AFM alltogether and mounting a VEMS, for variable wastegate control.

Ah right, I can imagine that if you have to figure it out too, it could cost you 9k GBP… development costs.

Regards the Beast.

From what I have read, I feel I have to help you with your limited knowledge of engine tuning.

1. 12v hair dryers do nothing to make power. In fact, when the engine is running near to the top end of the rev range, these plastic toys actually reduce the airflow, as they are nothing more than an obstruction.

2. Yes, you may feel you have more power, but this is a physcological gain, as your sub-consious doesn’t want to believe you have wasted money.

3. It’s also funny you say “yes very bling wouldn’t catch me doing that to a CX… might not even catch me in CX ”

4. Then you go on to say “I have a 2.0 athena with electric turbo and filter removed a mate of mine rejetted it for me it makes a lot more noise and feels a bit quicker not sure.” I don’t need to say any more, do I.

5. As for the Beast:- You cannot see what is fitted to the motor in the pictures, you do not know what fuel injectors (or mods) are fitted, you cannot possibly see what the turbo is. I should also add that it is a Garrett T3 and you may not know, but there are 4 different sized internals and ratios for this model.

6. In your knowledge of Nitrous, you do not know what fuel or nitrous pressure I run, so unfortunately you do not know the flow rates.

7. As for Neil and CGAT, I think he feels threatened that he might not have the only tuned CX around. So, he shows this by his comments. He also shows this by following me around the World to different forums and always trying to have something to say each time I make a post.

8. The engine I will be building, is being built to suit what my customer wants and is being built to suit the auxillaries that the engine will be controlled by.

9. Running around with a Dremel, Ohhhh please. Listen…...35 years experience, a Masters degree in automtive mechanical & electrical engineering being a 2:1 from London university, British and European champion when I was racing, 7 trophies – 6 1st & 1 2nd. In the 2 shows we entered the Beast in, in France, she came away with Best of show and top engine award at one show and top 20 in the other. I also looked after a Formula 3 for Renault & their Porsche cup car in between normal work and restoring their Renault 4cv.

10. Now the Beast is undergoing a complete re-build. I was hoping to get it ready for Rome, but work commitments means I will be looking at getting her ready for Eurocitro at Le Mans in 2009.

11. Knock my work if you want, but come up with something sensible and please show me your qualifications, I am always willing to learn if someone can tell me something I don’t know.

12. When the Beast is ready, I’ll be quite happy to race any other CX and then when you’ve all had you backsides well and trully smacked, you may re-think what you know and what I can do.

13. Sorry if this all sounds a bit harsh, but as I get older, I find it difficult to ignore bar room experts.

Hehe. Well, I have no doubts about John’s technical capabilities. The general impression I get is that, while CGAT develops lots and lots of power, Johns solutions are more…. elegant (even if his taste in bodywork is apalling ).

I personally have next to no knowledge for the renault motor. But, putting a bump in the hood of a CX is sacrilege, the car lives by its lines. I would recommend IFATFIRST, that you start a topic about your car and then everyone can add their comments as they see fit.

In the meantime though, back on topic, and back to dutch, as it’s all a little more mundane.

Ik heb gisteren duz inderdaad al ruzieend met het balanceer apparaat mijn zomerbanden geplaatst. Het zijn uniroyals geworden. Michelin levert niks in 205/60R15W dus ik heb maar cheapo’s gekozen van Uniroyal op http://www.novarota.nl. Minder dan 80 euro per stuk, en ze rijden goed. Het balanceren is ook aardig gelukt, gisteren binnendoor nog even de 160 aangetikt, met een hele hele lichte trilling, maar ja 2 van mijn stalen alfa velgen zijn dan ook niet helemaal mooi recht. Ik had eigenlijk een 2e setje alfa staal besteld maar de sloperij belde op dat ze ze toch niet hadden uiteindelijk. Aangezien het dit weekend 20 graden zou worden heb ik de winterbanden maar van het staal afgehaald.

Dit, samen met de andere klusjes van gisteren betekenen dat de vooruitgang vwb de motor weer eens precies nul was. Ik denk dat ik vandaag nog maar even naar Abbenes ga om toch maar wat te doen. Anders komt er nooit wat van. Volgend weekend is alweer de citromobile, maar misschien kan het op koninginnedag nog wel wat gedaan worden. Ik moet ook nog even de laatste dingetjes bij DP-engineering bestellen voor de VEMS.

Good luck with the renault engine. There’s also something called a J7T I believe it’s a 2.2liter 4 cyl 12 valve injection that makes 150hp and it’s vaguely possible it will fit straight into the athena’s engine mounts. There may also be a factory exhaust manifold from some sort of renault turbo that fits it. That would be an interesting starting point for a proper engine that I’ve given some thought in the past, never made any work of it though.

But as John says, loose the electrical blowers, get a Eaton supercharger if you must.
